Towns tackle tasks

Dighton is holding a Special Town Meeting to address their fiscal issues.
The contrasts with Middleboro are noteworthy: 1. increasing their insurance deductible 2. the health insurance split (Middleboro currently has a 90/10 split with employees paying 10% toward their health insurance premiums.).

Article 3 would allow the town to set up a town account of $10,000 to cover the deductible for the town’s liability insurance. This would be under the provisions of the MGL, Chapter 40, Section 13 of the Municipal Buildings Insurance Fund.“If we continue to increase our deductible, it could be very beneficial to the town,” Selectman Tom Pires said.According to the Board of Selectman, if $10,000 was put into an account, then the town would have that set aside as the deductible in the event of a loss.

Town employees and their dependants may be looking at a shift in rate coverage. The town currently contributes 60 percent of the contributory group health insurance while employes take 40 percent. Article 23 asks that the town cover 75 percent and the employee cover 25 percent. ..........These figures are above and beyond our 60/40 percent obligation.”
