What an exciting COMMUNITY Middleboro is becoming!
I want to thank all who participated in the Recall Election
events, but even more so, I want to thank all who are beginning
to pay attention, attend meetings, discuss the governance of
the Town, and work to create a 'COMMUNITY' !
After all, isn't that what this was ABOUT?
It is exciting to have voters begin to ask questions about the
DOR Report and the Auditors' Reports that the Selectmen
have failed to address.
It is exciting to have voters condemn the hiring of new employees
and the creation of new positions, by a BOS confronted with the
endless future deficits.
It is exciting to have voters comment on town employees' contracts.
It is exciting to have voters begin to comment on the lack of a
'PLAN.'
I have asked 'Where's the Plan?'
Others are beginning to ask the same.
There is NO 'PLAN' !
It is exciting because voters are beginning to pay attention,
ask questions and understand the issues confronting the
Town.
More importantly, I want to express my thanks to the
opponents who have served to provide insight and question
issues.
Although I will be forever disappointed by those who continually
form their opinions without the benefit of information or thought,
regrettably, that appears to be a recurring American problem.
Confronted with failing schools and the investment
required to retain accreditation of the High School,
community participation and unity is necessary for
solutions.
Other school districts spend less per pupil and seem to rank
higher than Middleboro. It would seem that we could do more
for our young people. Isn't this our greatest commitment as
a community?
Clearly, we have failed to include the encyclopedic knowledge
and experience of Oak Point residents in the process.
Many have pointed out that oversight and the need to
ask advice, input, creative solutions and seek to share their
'world experience.'
Many have expressed appreciation of the events of this
year. Many have gotten to know their neighbors and
created networks and connections.
As a community, we now recognize the great resources
we have among our neighbors. We have expertise,
experience, understanding and education that we have
overlooked or not invited.
Town Meeting voters questioned sick pay and vacation
buybacks at the Annual Town Meeting.
Didn't Selectwoman Brunelle tell you that after a certain
date, that practice had been discontinued?
Where are the Town Meeting minutes?
Is that date included?
When the issue was raised about keeping track of sick time
and vacation, didn't someone say it had been accomplished?
At last Monday's (9/24) Selectmen's Meeting, didn't Mr. Roger Brunelle
tell you that they had just purchased the software to accomplish
that task? And it won't go into effect until Oct. 1st?
So, in other words, it has not been done?
Are you paying attention to their words and what their failed
leadership are costing you in tax dollars?
I have gone door-to-door and spoken to YOUR neighbors who
will be confronted with the hard choices this year of paying their
real estate taxes, buying food, being warm with oil at + $80 per barrel,
escalating prescription drug prices.
Many have raised their children in this community and this arrogant
BOS will force them to make tough choices because of their
failed leadership to make the required cuts in costs.
Debt exclusion or Prop 2 1/2 overrides are not the only choices.
The BOS have MANY other options to avoid following Bridgewater' s
current situation if appropriate decisions are made during this current
fiscal year, but those decisions need to be made now.
Will you remain silent as your neighbors become desperate?
Others have expressed an interest to me in an on line 'newspaper' that
focuses on Middleboro issues, voter registration drives, a
taxpayers' group, a PAC, and so on.
Pretty exciting times in Middleboro!

Jesse - you've made an incredible impact in Middleboro by alerting people to the problems and issues facing the town. Your tireless efforts are recognized by all! And, at the end of the day, you're a winner no matter what the polls said on Saturday - and Middleboro is a winner because you were there.
Gladys,
You're right! The real winners are the voters who are now paying attention.
They may not YET understand ALL of the issues and problems, but they're paying attention and sharing it with their neighbors.
I heard a portion of Tony Lopes' radio program this AM. Even though he opposed the Recall, he had to acknowledge that twice as many voters voted compared to the April Town Election.
It's not where I would like it to be, but it's an improvement.
And I have met voters at their front doors who have expressed their ideas and concerns!
Maybe Bridgewater will wake up!
Jessie,
I agree it was a successful recall in it did bring important issues to the forefront and raised the awareness of a lot more people. Thank you for your effort to bring the recall to vote.
