I was just wondering if ignorance of the Town Charter is a justifiable excuse for its continued disregard. Do you think so?
Have you read it?
It's easily accessible on http://mrmiddleboro.org/
Any who regularly watch or attend the Selectmen's Meetings and have read the Town Charter might notice how easily its provisions are disregarded.
While I have criticized their disregard of the Legal Affairs section, you might try reading the portion that pertains to the Finance Committee.
Because of the former Town Manager's antagonistic relationship with the FinComm, the BOS began a process of ignoring the FinComm and ignoring the Town Charter.
Do you think it's time to restore the process?
Much like the inability of the BOS to sell land (Perry property anyone?), they don't seem much better at managing your money. And they surely don't seem capable of administering the responsibilities specifically delegated in the Charter.
Remember the recent Selectmen's Meeting at which the DPW Superintendent was asked to appear because the BOS didn't know what the DPW did?
And the entire BOS sat through the WRPD hearing on 10/1 without noticing that the applicant's plans were incorrect. (That was when Selectman Perkins had a temper tantrum about not being 'business friendly.' Except the Applicant was wrong. And Selectman Rogers' arm got sore from patting himself on the back because he visited the facility, but neglected the Town Planner's memo and the faulty plans.)
Shouldn't the Finance Committee have originated the money articles for the STM Warrant? Shouldn't the Finance Committee have been included?
Hasn't the Finance Committee been right in the past about balancing the budget?

Merely a suggestion, however ultimately the IG's office will come to Middleboro. When is the only question and when seeing this sort of violation of the Town Charter it serves us all to send off an email to the IG.
